“As a director, my work centers on listening and responding. I focus on creating an environment that is supportive, where artists sustain each other in order to shape work that is heart-centered and truthful. While focusing on the text and listening to what is essential about the story, I strive for a balanced and collaborative process. This listening-and-responding impulse deepens relationships and pushes the actors and designers to work in tandem with me towards transcendence. My ethos derives from servant leadership—through teamwork that integrates and honors as many voices as possible we create richer and more meaningful art than is possible alone.”

Megan K. Pence is a multi-hyphenate theatre artist who’s worked professionally as a director, actor, stage manager, sound & props designer, arts administrator, and educator. (You’ll note “website designer” is not listed among those talents).

After graduating from Bradley University (Go Braves!) with a degree in Theatre Education, Megan toured the Midwest with Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre serving as their Associate Director and even co-writing their new musical version of Sleeping Beauty.

Megan’s big city stints in Chicago and the Twin Cities included work with Alphabet Soup Productions, Stages Theatre Company, and Park Square Theatre. Then Megan shifted gears to become a Resident Ensemble member and Director of Administration for 8 seasons with Commonweal Theatre Company in the tiny town of Lanesboro, MN (population 754).

Most recently, Megan has been living the warmer life in Tallahassee, completing her MFA in Directing from Florida State University (Go ‘Noles!). There, Megan was challenged to stretch her directing muscles as she worked on multiple scenes and major projects including a one-act (My California), two devised works, a Shakespeare adaptation of Measure for Measure, and two Mainstage productions (Marie Antoinette & Witch).
